Hello Chapter 187 Members and Friends in aviation,

I hope this letter finds you all doing well in your life.

We had a great group at our Chapter’s annual banquet on January 24th at the Romano’s Macaroni grill. We all enjoyed the good food and great company. The season-appropriate warm heat from the big fire place and the Italian songs were fabulous treats! It was fun singing "Funiculi Funicula" together with the beautiful soloist. I didn’t know we had so many good singers in our group.

Congratulations went to Deene Ogden for his fourth "First Flight Award" for his Van’s RV-12, light sport aircraft. Those officers who were not at the banquet can pick up the service certificates at the February Chapter meeting.

We are currently planning our speakers and programs in our monthly meetings this year. If you have some interesting subjects or know someone whom we might be interested in listening to, please let us know. We also need groups of hangars we can visit for the Hangar Hop activity. Please let us know if you are willing to sponsor the event. The chapter will provide the lunch. The more people get involved and pitch in, the more energy and camaraderie we can feel! It is infectious!

You can’t fly an airplane without wings and cowlings... Rob is painting our RV-12 in the garage. He is having a great time creating all sorts of gadgets like "Wingamajig" which is a rotating wing holder for painting the wings. Rob said, "Painting this thing is a learning experience...and the entire process falls under the curse of Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law." Hope it will turn out beautiful to fly to Oshkosh this summer, meanwhile I am twiddling my thumbs... only one painter is allowed in the painting booth.

We had good attendance on Tuesdays last year, but it is changed to Thursdays to accommodate those members who cannot come on Tuesdays. Hope the attendance is even better this year!

February Meeting is coming up on the second Thursday, February 12 at 6:45p.m. at the Wells Branch Community Library. The speaker is Mr. John Scott of Sun City Amateur Radio Society and the presentation is titled "Quad Copters with GPS. It will be interesting. We will meet at Wendy’s, 1425 Wells Branch Parkway, Pflugerville, 78660 for pre-meeting dinner at 5:30p.m. Come and join us!

Hope we will see many people at this year’s kick off meeting!
Warm Regards,
Haruko Reese
